Patton, George S(mith)
(11 nov. 1885, San Gabriel, Cal., EE.UU.–21 dic. 1945, Heidelberg, Alemania).

Oficial de ejército estadounidense. Egresó de West Point y combatió en la primera guerra mundial con el cuerpo de tanques recientemente formado. Posteriormente ascendió a general de división y estuvo al mando de la 2a división blindada (1940). En la segunda guerra mundial dirigió operaciones militares en Marruecos (1942) y en Sicilia (1943), luego estuvo al mando del 3er ejército en su avance a través del norte de Francia (1944) y entrada en Alemania (1945). Su estrategia de operaciones audaces y movedizas en la guerra de tanques y su liderazgo estricto y sumamente disciplinado le hicieron merecedor del respeto de sus soldados y del apodo "Old Blood-and-Guts (sangre y agallas). Fue criticado por golpear a un soldado hospitalizado de quien sospechó que fingía estar enfermo; luego pidió disculpas en público. Murió en un choque de automóviles en Alemania.
